Anish kapoor weaves "untrue" and "unreal" sculptural works into palazzo strozzi`s architecture

Designboom_ From 7 October 2023 until 4 February 2024, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Italy, presents a major exhibition dedicated to the work of British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor who is widely known for revolutionizing the notion of sculpture in contemporary art. Curated by Arturo Galansino, Director General of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the show, titled Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal, features a diverse range of works, from monumental installations to intimate environments, that create a dynamic dialogue between Kapoor’s art and the architecture of Palazzo Strozzi.

The Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal exhibition includes new architecturally scaled work specially conceived for the Renaissance courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi, as well as early, mid-career, and recent pieces. The installations showcase the artful way in which Anish Kapoor masters a wide range of materials and techniques. Visitors encounter a variety of sculptures that explore themes of versatility, incongruity, entropy and transience, and question our perception of space, light, and time.

In Anish Kapoor’s art, the unreal merges with the untrue, transforming or negating the common perception of reality. He invites us to explore a world where the boundaries between what is true and false dissolve, opening the doors to the realm of the impossible. One of the distinguishing features is the way Kapoor’s works transcend their materiality. Kapoor’s works merge empty and full space, absorbing and reflecting surface, geometrical and biomorphic form. In a world where reality seems increasingly elusive and manipulable, Anish Kapoor challenges us to seek truth beyond appearances, inviting us to explore the territory of the untrue and the unreal.
